about
Now residing in South London after shaping her sound in Leeds, future soul singer/songwriter B-âhwe’s ability to tell intricately woven stories has begun to turn heads. With a focus on rich vocal arrangements, lush instrumentals and poetic lyricism, she’s been likened to a ‘trip-hop Kate Bush’.
The release of her debut EP 'Nuance' last year was backed by BBC Introducing West Yorkshire and the Future Bubblers team on Worldwide FM, as well as seeing love from Spotify through New Music Friday and Soultronic. B-âhwe was also supported by publications Earmilk, Jazz Revelations, Stereofox and GUAP.
Now, with the support of Help Musicians UK's 'Do It Differently' fund,
B-âhwe is proud to present 'Bewitched'.
The track takes lyrical inspiration from Ella Fitzgerald’s take on the jazz standard ‘Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered’, as well as the words of Oscar Wilde. The song offers a fresh retelling of the classic tale of a bittersweet broken heart. It explores themes of youthful manipulation and the sting of a first love whose emotional abuse left B-âhwe seeing the world in a new, distorted light. These topics are more important than ever to keep in conversation after an eye opening year caused by COVID, revealing the inescapable positions of many facing domestic abuse during the pandemic.
In B-âhwe's words... '‘Bewitched’ is about innocence, youth, manipulation, and realisation. Inspired by the timeless words of those who helped me piece together my own experience, the song captures the modern tragedy of an unhealthy and painful first love. Where emotional abuse altered life’s perceptions, replacing blissful naivety with a burdened mistrust.'
lyrics
Tastes like honey suckle burns like ice,
We both lose a layer of skin when we move aside.
The lustful insanity has took hold of me my minds in circles.
Here am I am, sweet seventeen again.
His cruelty makes the love burn bright,
I don’t wanna know what it tastes like without.
It hurts when his mouths open but then he touches me and it’s something devote.
Horizontally he’s fallen without.
Bewitched.
I grow tired of this sacrificial life.
His feet are not worth how I praise his grounds.
He grates on me like a zested thumb and I miss the me I was before,
wise at last to this half pint imitation.
You can’t pull at my nature anymore,
I will not humour the child within I’m done.
I miss sleeping and eating and all of the good things I did before love took hold.
Leave my heart antiseptic as you move on.
Bewitched.
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered, no more.
