Following the release of debut project 'Nuance' last year, B-ahwe is back with 'Motions' - a carefully crafted follow up EP that beautifully marries elements of neo-soul, jazz and alternative hip-hop. The project is generously supported by Help Musicians UK's 'Do It Differently' fund.
'Motions' features an expansion of B-ahwe's unmistakable vocal work, with nods to jazz greats Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald woven between contemporary influences like Nai Palm and Noname. The songwriting packs a punch, with densely layered vocal harmonies decorated with beautiful guitar and keys parts, supplemented by powerful bass lines and driving grooves. This time, long time friend TAMBALA is on production duties, bringing some extra seasoning to proceedings.
The project plays with the theme of us being in motion whilst passing through life. It looks within and explores B-ahwe's process of dealing with events that have changed her, and the anxieties that are relatable to us all as we live and evolve in our lifetimes. It's all about movement, and exploring the different stages we arrive at in life.
In B-ahwe's words: “I live in my thoughts most of the time, they often rule me. Music allows me to step outside my head for a moment and release something I didn’t realise I was feeling; make sense of all the noise. Living in my head often leaves me feeling trapped, constantly craving growth, unable to see how far I have actually come because the past and future overshadow the present. ‘Motions’ captures those moments of presence and reflection, where something raw has been revealed and accepted, creating space for growth.”

Remix 2-track of two singles from B-ahwe's 2021 'Motions' EP.
This release brings together friends and collaborators from the Manchester and Leeds scenes in the form of Tommy Villiers and apltn. Celebrating a love for drum 'n' bass, nu-jazz and experimental hip-hop, it operates as a yin and yang. Tommy's upbeat, melodic d'n'b remix gives way to chilled out reggaeton infused beats from apltn.

B-ahwe performs her tracks 'Drifting' and 'Fall into' live at EVOKE Studios, Leeds. Displaying the breath taking live musicianship B-ahwe is beginning to be known for, as she performs with her 8 piece band of 5 years.
This is accompanied by the intimate live rendition of 'Bewitched', highlighting the detailed vocal arrangements in the track. And her moving cover of the jazz standard 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered', her inspiration behind the song itself and the song which began her life long love of jazz.
